LASIK, (laser in situ keratomileusis) is the most advanced method of laser vision correction that reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It has many advantages over the previous types of refractive surgery.

•  LASIK will decrease or completely
   eliminate your need for distance
   correction.
•  LASIK will improve your lifestyle by    decreasing the need for contacts
   or glasses.

LASIK is performed as an outpatient procedure at a laser center. The procedure itself takes only a few minutes. The surgeon uses a surgical instrument called a microkeratome to lift a flap of the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye).

After the flap is lifted, the exposed cornea is reshaped with the laser. The flap is then replaced.

The flap will adhere well to the eye without stitches. Some patients see better immediately. For others it may take a day or two.
